Carol Maude (Foster) Goe, 80, our family’s beloved matriarch passed away on April 22, 2025. Carol’s greatest joy and achievement was her large, close-knit family. As a mother of 7 children, grandmother, aka Grammy Bean, to 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Carol was the heart of her family. Her kitchen was always the gathering place for holidaycelebrations and impromptu family events. Carol had a knack for remembering every birthday, anniversary, and important dates in her children’s, grandchildren’s, great-grandchildren, and friend’s lives. Never failing to send a card or make a call to sing “Happy Birthday to you….” Her homemade potato salad was legendary and always requested for gatherings. She was delighted to teach the recipe to each new generation. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and fostering a loving environment, you were always welcome at Carol’s house.
Carol was born December 14, 1944 in Jackson, WY to Melvin and Bertha Foster. She grew up in Wilson on the banks of Fish Creek, on the same land her ancestors homesteaded. She attended Wilson Elementary and Jackson/Wilson High School. In high school she enjoyed being a member of Pep Club and making some lifelong friends.
She married in June 1960 and her years of motherhood began with the blessing of sevenchildren over the next 16 years. As a homemaker she enjoyed knitting, crochet and making clothes for herself and children. Many of us cherish a blanket she made. Carol was active in the community enjoying Square Dancing with friends, working with Wilson Homemakers and as a member of D.O.E.S, where she served as President. She enjoyed several trips with her fellow D.O.E.S including some to Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, and Texas. She shared many stories of those trips with us over the years.
As a single mother with the 4 youngest still at home, Carol worked full-time and provided a warm, loving home while going back to school to earn her GED. This was one of her biggest accomplishments for her. She held many different jobs over the years, but her longest, most enjoyable and rewarding was with Teton County Treasurer’s Office. She loved working with the community at the counter and retired after 28 years.
Carol made it a goal to attend as many sporting events, activities, and programs that her children, grandchildren and great-children were involved in. Traveling for as many as she could whether it was basketball, choir, football, cheer, hockey, gymnastics, baseball, orchestra, soccer, dance, and graduations. Any event her children, grand children & great-grandchildren were involved in, she was there. You could hear her voice from the bleachers cheering loud and proud.
We have many memories from family camping trips. One we all recall is her shocking her grandchildren with her very accurate marksmanship with a rifle and a pistol. She sure enjoyed the trips a little more once some of us got campers, she knew she would have a cozy place to sleep. Card games where always a part of family gatherings. Grandma J’s Kitchen Rummy was taught to us all and no one was allowed to “play sister’s”. This game has and will continue to be played and shared with many family members and friends. Carol will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Carol was proceeded in death by her son Eric, her parents Melvin and Bertha Foster. Survived by her children, Bryan, Jeff (Charla), Kevin, Amber, Malea, and Ben (Nicole) – 9 Grandchildren –11 Great-Grandchildren.
