Cheryl Staley

Cheryl Lynn Staley passed away April 4, 2023 at home in South Jordan, Utah from an
unexpected medical event. Cheryl was born in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on May 4, 1951
to Kellen and Patricia Staley and was the oldest of five children. She loved growing up in
Jackson with family, life-long friends, and the beautiful surroundings. Cheryl developed
a great love of skiing and competed successfully through high school. She graduated
from Jackson Wilson High School and moved to Australia with her family where she
attended college. There she met and married Louis Gonano and they welcomed a new
baby boy, Shaun.
After moving back to the United States, Cheryl attended college at Utah State University
and earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Management. She enjoyed a career in
telecommunications sales and management for many years, and loved her second
career as a Realtor. She also volunteered at many community organizations.
Cheryl had many passions including hiking, gardening, cooking, family history, and was
an accomplished skier. She loved animals and traveling to Canada and Hawaii.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family.
She had a strong testimony of the Savior and cherished her membership in the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cheryl developed many close friendships from all
areas of her life and will be missed by many.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Kellen Staley, and her brother, Shane
Staley. She is survived by her son, Shaun (Amy) Staley and grandson, Luke; her mother,
Patricia; and three siblings, Janet (Ed) Neel, Scott Staley, and JaNell (John) Moody, as
well as three nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A viewing will be held on Saturday morning, April 15th, 2023 at the LDS chapel at 4200
Skye Drive in South Jordan, Utah, from 11:30 to 12:30, followed by funeral services at
1:00 pm. The interment will be held at a later date at Elliott Cemetery in Wilson,
Wyoming.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to LDS Philanthropies, the
Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
