Constance Margaret Hostert was born August 20, 1921 on a farm near Cascade, Iowa, to George and Rose Hostert. She was educated in Cascade and Dubuque, Iowa where she became a Registered Nurse. Soon after graduation she enlisted in the United States Army. She served with the Army Nurse Corps in the South Pacific during the World War ll. Back in Iowa after the war, she received an inquiry from her former commanding officer asking her to spend the summer of 1949 working at St. John's Hospital in Jackson. She immediately fell in love with the Tetons, the surrounding area and the people.
She married Steve J. Bartek on May 23, 1950. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2003.
Connie was extremely involved in community activities, including St. John's Hospital, the town of Jackson, her church, the American Red Cross, and her family, to name just a few. She was also an avid hiker and skier, learning how to ski, swim, and ride a bicycle as an adult. She was always extremely friendly, with a zest for life and had an unfailingly positive attitude right up to the end. She is survived by a son, Christopher Bartek, daughters Carmel Bartek, Rosemary Maxwell, and Elizabeth Bartek; a sister, Ruth Ann Volesky, and four grandchildren, as well as dear friends Mary Jane Hanson and Juanita McGhee. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, a sister, her husband Steve, and her daughter in-law Cecil (Chris) Bartek. She will be dearly missed.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Connie Bartek Fund at the St. John's Hospital Foundation, Attention: Nurses' Continuing Education, Po Box 428, Jackson, Wy. 83001 A Memorial Mass wil be held on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jackson, Wyoming.
