Dean Richardson Jones

After a long battle with cancer, Dean took his last breaths on August 15th in Jackson, Wyoming at 62 years old. He was comfortable, peaceful, and surrounded with love especially in his last hours.

Dean was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Rosalyn and John Paul Jones. As the youngest of six siblings, he developed a great independence from a young age. In his early adulthood Dean worked as a chef all over the country from Nantucket to Los Angeles. This journey eventually led him to Jackson, Wyoming where he worked at the Spotted Horse Ranch. Jackson opened a world of new hobbies and taught him the trade of fly fishing and guided snowmobiling through areas like Yellowstone and Granite Hot Springs. It was also here that he started a family.

Raising a family led him to the east coast where he learned how to design and build homes. He worked as a general contractor for 10 years in Pawleys Island, SC.

He was an incredible father and spent many years coaching his children’s soccer teams, teaching them how to swim, cook, fly fish, play music, and so much more.

Dean was a true adventurer - always learning and sharing his love of nature and exploration. The majority of his life he was an avid fly fisherman and guide. He spent the last decade sharing the wonders of the Snake River with travelers, family, friends, and veterans.

While he is no longer with us on terra firma, he is very much alive in our hearts and continues to live on in our favorite places, songs, and memories. He was a remarkable human with an open mind and curiosity that impacted everyone he met.

Dean is survived by his children, Hudson Jones and Tabor Jones, his loving partner Morrison Simms, his siblings, Scotty, Cindy, Chris, Jay, and Mark, his daughter in law Annie Blackwood, and his daughter’s partner Chantal Huus.
