Dorothy Wiltse Lapham Hammond, age 76, of 610 Moulton Loop Road, Jackson, Wyoming, died peacefully with family at her bedside on Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. John's Medical Center following a long illness. Dorry was born in Syracuse, New York. She attended the Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA followed by Wheelock College and Syracuse University to pursue a teaching career. A 23 year resident of Jackson Wyoming, she was a beloved wife, grandmother, mom, sister, daughter, homemaker, loyal friend and dedicated community volunteer. She loved the four seasons in Jackson Hole, the wildlife that ate her flowers, Phelps & Jenny Lakes, pickelball at the Rec Center, her evening glass of white zinfandel with dinner, and her appaloosa horse, Shadow, at Trinity Ranch. Surviving are her husband, Robert Alan Hammond; a daughter, Elizabeth Hammond Carlson; a son, Robert William Hammond; three grandchildren, William Alan Carlson, Rigdon Tucker Kimo Hammond, and Riley Jean Maukeala Hammond, all of Jackson, Wyoming; a sister, Susan Lapham Spalding (Joseph) of Skaneateles, NY; a sister-in-law, Rena Barbour Lapham of Closter, New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews all over New England. Also survived by two step sisters, Mary Scott of Sarasota, FL and Hope Cushman of Bravard, NC, one step brother, Edward Wilkinson of New Canaan, CT, and a cousin, Beverley Lapham of Meredith, NH. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. & Mrs. William Gray Lapham, Jr. (Carrie Ernestine Wiltse); two step-mothers, Helen Flaherty Denison Lapham, Mary VanDuyn Wilkinson Lapham Hill; and a brother, William Wiltse Lapham. A family graveside service will be held this Fall with Pastor Ray McDaniel presiding. Her ashes will rest in Aspen Hill Cemetery in Jackson, Wyoming, among others. There will be no calling hours. The family would especially like to thank her amazing friends who provided support and encouragement to her during her times of need; and the doctors, nurses, and caregivers that grew to know her in her last days.
