Frances “Fran” Dee Peterson passed away October 4, 2023 at the age of 89, at her cabin on Pacific Creek with her two sons by her side; along with all her forest creatures she enjoyed watching. Fran was born in Denver, Colorado on January 28, 1934 to Arthur Rush Vroman and Genevieve (Whittaker) Vroman.
Fran's life story is deeply rooted in Wyoming, from her years at Natrona County High School, class of 1952, to attending Casper College Nursing School. Her summers at Flagg Ranch introduced her to the northern end of the Jackson Valley, where she worked various jobs from waiting tables to running the front desk, experiencing the beauty of the area firsthand. While babysitting his nephew she met Clayton, her future husband, and it was “love at first sight!” She married Clayton E. Peterson on June 6, 1954, sharing 52 years until his passing in 2006. Throughout their life together, they experienced various adventures, including living on construction sites across Wyoming before settling in Casper. Clayton's retirement in 1998 prompted them to move to Pacific Creek in Moran, Wyoming, which Fran described as "the most beautiful area on earth."
Fran's life on Pacific Creek was filled with appreciation for nature and community. She found joy in observing the wildlife, from her beloved pine martens, all named Marty, to the majestic bears, moose, elk, and deer that frequented her property. Her friendships with her neighbors brought her happiness, and she cherished the times spent playing bridge, poker, and mahjong with them. Known as "the Rock of Pacific Creek," Fran was a pillar of support and camaraderie for those around her.
In addition to her love for the outdoors and her community involvement, Fran had a talent for baking. Her pies, cakes, and Danish Tea Rings, a tradition passed down from her mother-in-law, were sought after at potlucks and gatherings. She also had a knack for setting a beautiful table, adding to the enjoyment of any meal shared with loved ones.
Family was at the center of Fran's life, and she took immense pride in her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Whether celebrating their academic, athletic, or career achievements, she never missed an opportunity to brag about them. Fran also dedicated her time to volunteering and helping others, whether it was planning events, providing holiday treats for soldiers while providing security for VIPs in the area, or supporting organizations like the Wounded Warriors. Her generosity and kindness extended even to the young soldier at the rodeo whom she rewarded with a championship belt buckle for his impressive ride.
Fran's life was a testament to her love for her country, her community, and her family. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and love for nature will surely live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clayton; brothers Arthur Jr., Robert, Duane; and sisters Flora Doherty and Carol Kimbrell. She is survived by her sons Clayton Jr. “Pete” (Tanya) and Clinton; brother Glen (Sherry); grandchildren Kristoffer Peterson (Kassi), Liesl Sisson (Dan), Kristen Getz (D.J.) and Kala Peterson; great grandchildren Madysen Korogi, Maci Peterson, Claire Sisson, Maxwell Fulton and Hugo Fulton; along with many nieces and nephews.
