Helen Guthrie

Helen M. Guthrie, age 82, passed away from complications due to COPD in Jackson, Wyoming at the St. John's Living Center on October 6, 2009. She was born in Brighton, Colorado on March 20, 1927 to Alois and Elizabeth Bittle. She was the second to the youngest of 11 children. Helen grew up and was educated in Denver, CO. During World War II while working at The Defense Plant, she met Clint Guthrie. They were married June 21, 1945. Clint returned to Jackson in 1948, with Helen and daughter Donna. Donna was born in Denver in 1946. Their daughter Kathy was born in 1949 in Jackson and son Clinton in 1957 in Jackson.

Helen was well known in Jackson as she was active in Does, Elks, Birthday Club, and several other organizations. She worked many years for Paul Hanson Gifts and LV Energy. She participated in owning a furniture and carpet business, ran a day care, and Helen Ceramics. Helen was multi-talented and taught oodles of children and adults to sew, knit, embroidery, and many crafts, you name it. Spunky and feisty Helen managed her property, made beautiful jewelry, and gardened to the day she went into The Living Center October 1, 2009. She will be missed by her family, extended family, and many friends.

Helen is survived by her daughter Donna Glenn of Jackson, granddaughter Lori Glenn, her husband Berg Briggs, great-grand daughter Lily Briggs of Jackson, granddaughter Kimberly Glenn Longenfeld, her husband Brent, great-grandson Bryce Longenfeld of Jackson; daughter Kathy Charles, her husband Dan Edwards of Etna, granddaughter Vandy Charles Walker, her husband Louis, great-grandson Aidan Walker of Jackson, grandson Brett Charles, his wife Grace, great-grand son Riley Charles and great-granddaughter Lyrical Charles of Alpine, and extended family grandson Jeff Edwards of Jackson; son Clinton Guthrie, his wife Debbie of Etna, grandson Chancy Guthrie of Etna, granddaughter Sorrel Guthrie Lees, her husband Corry, great grandson Braxton Lees of Etna. Also surviving are two sisters Louise Komineck (89) and Eleanor Richards (91) of Denver, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clint Guthrie, two infant children David and Elizabeth, four brothers, two sisters, one half brothers and one half-sister.

There is a family gathering at 515 E. Hall Ave. in Jackson from noon to 5:00 pm Saturday Oct. 24. Friends are invited to stop by to share anecdotes, stories, and potluck.
