James P. Huspek

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Paul Huspek, a cherished husband, father, and friend. Jim left this world peacefully at St. John's Hospital in Jackson, Wyoming. He was 80 years old and in his own words he “outlived all bets”.

Jim was born in Seattle, Washington, to parents James and June Huspek. Jim was raised in St. Paul, Minnesota where he graduated from Cretin High School in 1964. After a brief time in the seminary Jim decided to go to college instead and later graduated from the University of Minnesota. From a young age, Jim exhibited a flair for sales and worked for companies like Cargil, Robert Half, BFI, Culligan, Custom Electronics and HYKO. One of his last jobs was as bookkeeper for Bidache here in Jackson where he learned QuickBooks and met some wonderful people.

As the eldest son Jim grew up with sisters Paula, JoAnn, Janine and brothers, Jon and Jary. Jim loved them with all of his heart. Jim especially loved his role as “uncle Jim”. He was a very important person in many lives, including the extras {like Roy, DelRay, Jim, Shep and the Pintur’s {Amanda, Bob, Dom & Vince}}. Though his parents, sister Paula {her husband Chuck}, and brother Jary predeceased him the memories they created together remained close to his heart throughout his life. His mother always said “her Jimmy was the perfect son.”

Jim moved to Jackson, WY in June of 1984 leaving the city life behind him. Jim bought a cowboy hat and began his new life. He loved to ski, hike, fish and camp, Jackson was the place to be. Jim found {the old-fashioned way @ the Cowboy on a Friday Night} the love of his life in Connie, his devoted wife of 35 years. Together, they crafted a beautiful life filled with joy, laughter, mutual respect and adventure [ especially in their motorhomes and 5th wheels]. Connie recalls as “a test of fire” the first backpack trip to Six Lakes.

One of Jim’s greatest joys was being a father to his daughter, Gretchen. He took immense pride in her accomplishments and cherished the special bond they shared. Jim was a guiding light in Gretchen's life, providing support, wisdom, and love at every turn. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will forever guide her path.

Jim was a man of many talents and interests and as a true Huspek he loved to drive. When driving he was in control of his destiny except for the 4 way stops and red lights. Whether he was exploring the great outdoors, indulging in his thirst for knowledge, or engaging in spirited discussions with friends, he approached life with curiosity and enthusiasm. His infectious laughter and warm smile could brighten even the darkest of days.

As we mourn the loss of Jim, let us also celebrate the incredible life he lived. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will forever remain in our hearts. "Please pass the salt" can only be understood by those who knew him best. In honoring his memory, we remember a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on the world.

Jim is survived by his daughter Gretchen {Brad} Thornton, his wife Connie and siblings Janine {Brian} Valento, JoAnn Kronschnabel, Jon {Nancy}Huspek. No services are planned at this time.
