James W. Wiessel Jr. (Jimmy) of Jackson Hole, WY passed away on June 18, 2020. He was 76. Born November 22, 1943 in East Orange, NJ to parents, Woody and Barbara Wiessel. He graduated from Brick Township High School in 1961 and received a BA in Education from Trenton State College in 1965. He enjoyed being a 5th grade teacher at Freehold Applegate Elementary. In 1987 he married Maryellen Gitto and they lived in Brick Township, NJ. After retirement in 1994, they chose to reside in Jackson, WY, where over the next 26 years he cherished their mountain lifestyle.
In his younger years, he enjoyed skiing, traveling, wood-working and fluke fishing in Jersey. Later, he enjoyed working at the Jackson airport as a skycap and also took up fly-fishing the Snake River, gardening, nature watching, and the occasional happy hour with friends. Over the years he enjoyed the loyal companionship of his labs, Jemima, Shadow and Daisy.
He is survived by his children, Sean Wiessel of Howell, NJ and Patricia Martin of Bokeelia, FL; grandchildren, Robert and Jeremy Wiessel, and Callie, Cody, and Connor Martin; and brother, John Wiessel. He is also survived by his step children, Jimmy Gitto and Kelly Gitto; step grandchildren, Jay and Lauren; and step great grandson Grant; and his beloved dog Daisy.
Jimmy was predeceased by his wife, Maryellen Wiessel, and parents, Woody and Barbara Wiessel. A celebration of life will be held later in summer.
