Joseph May

August 23, 1917 — December 13, 2012

Long time Jackson resident Joseph "Warren" May, 95, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, December 13, 2012 in Medford, Oregon. Warren is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Frances Moulton May. He is survived by one brother, four sons, Dennis, Leslie, Brent, and Gary, and their spouses, nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Born August 23, 1917 in Kelly, Wyoming to Ira Allen May and Adella Lerlene Walters, Warren was the third of seven brothers. He spent his early years working alongside his family on a ranch in Whitehall, Montana. As a young adult, Warren moved to Mormon Row (Grovont, Wyoming) to work on his uncle's ranch. During this time, he met Frances Moulton whom he married on April 2, 1942 in the LDS temple in Logan, Utah. Warren left to serve in the Army in World War II a week after his wedding. Upon returning from the service in April 1946, he was hired by Bruce Porter to work at the Jackson Hole Hereford Ranch. He devoted the rest of his life to carrying out ranching responsibilities such as harvesting hay, irrigating and plowing fields, and caring for animals, among many others. Warren worked as a rancher from his early childhood well into his 70s when health problems with his eyesight forced him to cut down on manual labor. In addition to his work on the ranch, Warren was very industrious and self sufficient in caring for his own home and family. He loved his wife and was proud of the accomplishments of his sons and grandchildren. He leaves behind a great legacy of hard work, integrity, and love for his family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the LDS Church in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will take place an hour prior to the service. Warren will be buried next to his wife in the Victor, Idaho Cemetery.
