Kevin Dwight Phillips Jr. of Independence Missouri
Born March 8, 1989, to Kevin D. Phillips and Nanette C. (Durette) Phillips in Fall
River, Massachusetts. Died June 12, 2022, at Grand Teton National Park,
Wyoming at the age of 33. Besides his parents, Kevin leaves behind two sisters,
Jessica (Phillips) Bedsaul and Rebecca (Phillips) Geveshausen. Four beloved
nieces, Aimee Geveshausen, Olivia Bedsaul, Coraline Geveshausen and Piper
Bedsaul. His paternal grandmother Edna (Jarvis) Phillips Royster and a multitude of
aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his cat, no official name, usually
just Kitty to Kevin who has been his companion for many years. Kevin loved and
cared for his cat like any parent would love and care for a child. He will be missed
by his gaming friends and his lifelong friend Joe. Cooking was a passion, especially
creating his own recipes. Eating pizza, pasta, chicken gnocchi soup and trying new
flavors of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream were everyday things for him. He found
wonder in both the majesty of the mountains and in things others might overlook.
Like when a bird he could not identify would wander into the parking lot of Old
Time Pottery where he worked for over 13 years. A memorial service will be held
at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Independence on Sunday June 26th at 3:00 p.m.
with visitation preceding the service from 2:00-3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to the National Park Foundation.
