Richard P. Werner

Richard (Dick) Paul Werner, 90, passed away peacefully, with family members surrounding him, on March 2, 2026.

Dick was born on August 3, 1935 in Hartford, CT, the son of Paul Richard Werner and Helene Lang Werner. He grew up in West Hartford, CT, where he went to Hall High School and participated as a violinist in the school and state orchestras and was a high jumper on the school track team.

Dick went on to study mechanical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. It was while attending university that he met the love of his life, Bobbie, a physical therapy major at University of Connecticut.

Upon graduating he went to work for Connecticut Light & Power Company; and Dick and Bobbie were married on September 21, 1957.The couple settled in Glastonbury, CT, where they raised 3 children. During these years Dick designed and managed construction of large power plant facilities, while on weekends he would spend time patiently teaching his children to skate, ski, swim, sail and handle small boats. Dick was also talented with his hands and never passed up an opportunity to carry out small remodeling projects in his home or at their cabin on Shadow Lake in Vermont.

In the late 80's Dick designed an island home which he and Bobbie built on Tilloo Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. When Dick retired shortly thereafter, the couple discovered Jackson Hole, which they promptly adopted for their winter home. Over the next 30 years Dick and Bobbie split their time between Tilloo and Jackson. In Jackson they volunteered as mountain ski hosts. In the islands they loved to snorkel, scuba, and explore the cays. The couple also enjoyed travel and Dick was always planning their next adventure.

Most of all Dick cherished opportunities to welcome family and friends to their homes. He was a warm and generous host, eager to share the joys of his adventurous life with others and most especially with his grandchildren. His family misses him dearly and remembers him as a truly faithful father and grandfather.

He is survived by his 3 children, Laura Werner, Cynthia Cerdan, and Robert Werner, and their spouses (Joe,Tony, and Yvette); and by his grandchildren who brought inestimable joy to his life: Jeff (spouse Sage), Nick (spouse Haley), Pete, Sam and Phoebe; and his darling great-granddaughter, Synevia.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers who helped Dick at his home, as well as the dedicated staff of St. John's and Sage Living; we are truly grateful for their sincere, kind and conscientious care of our father.
