Robert Forbes

Robert S. Forbes passed away on November 23, 2013 at St. John's Medical Center. He was the son of Robert S. Forbes and Letha J. Forbes. Born on December 10, 1936 in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he gre up. Bob was an avid drag racer and spent most of his high school spare time fixing up his 55 Chevy for the drag strip. He won 125 races with his Chevy 265. After graduating from Garfield High School in Terre Haute, he joined the United States Air Force and served 2 years in Germany. Bob worked at Northwest Distributing in Indianapolis, until Wyoming called him to Jackson in 1976. Eventually he was in charge of the pressroom for the Jackson Hole News and Guide where he received an award for his many years of service. Bob also worked at Quality Cleaners and at Bitter Root Trading Company. He also owned his owned his own antique company- 4Bes Trading Company, which he loved. Each Year at Christmas, he was Santa for the family and people in Jackson. Bob's love of racing took him back to the Indianapolis 500 each year where he worked as a fireman on the first turn for many years. He was a member of the Jackson Hole Classic Car Club and won several awards at the Teton County Fair for his 1956 Chevy Nomad and his 1961 Thunderbird. He is survived by his brother, James W. Forbes of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee; Sisters Barbara L. (Bill) Rinker of Moran, Wyoming, Melanie A. (Frank) Hess of Jackson, Wyoming; Niece Cynthia Rinker Petera of Tempe, Arizona; Nephew Michael W. Rinker of Kennewick, Washington; Grandnephews Kyle Petera, Dayne Petera, Nathan Hess, Kevin Rinker (Ashley); Grandnieces Torri Rinker, and Maryn J. Cannatella (Steve). Bob was so much loved by his family and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to St. John's Medical Center. There will be no public services.
