Ruth Nadine (Martin) Artzt, 82, a former long-time resident of Cincinnati, died at St. John's Medical Center in Jackson, WY on Saturday July 13, 2013. She was born March 12, 1931, in The Dalles, OR, the first of three children to Paul M. and Geraldine (Zachary) Martin. Ruth graduated from The Dalles High school in 1949 and was a student at the University of Oregon until she married Edwin L. Artzt, former Chairman and CEO of Proctor & Gamble, on May 12, 1950 in Eugene, OR. They were divorced in 1994. In addition to her lifetime vocation as a devoted mother and homemaker, Ruth was known to be a savvy horse-trader. She served on the boards of the International Visitor Center and YWCA in Cincinnati, OH and the Jackson Hole Therapeutic Riding Association. Ruth had a lifetime love affair with horses and rode often in Grand Teton National Park. She also enjoyed cats and dogs, traveling the world, and reading fiction. She had a special gift for making a room full of guests feel at home and was considered a "cool" mom and easy to talk to by the friends of her children. She was down to earth, and equally at ease with world leaders and common working people. Ruth attended the Indian Hill Church in Cincinnati, OH. Ruth is survived by her children, Wendy Artzt, Wellington, FL; Karen Husky and husband, Brady, Cincinnati, OH; Bill Artzt of Cincinnati, OH; Laura DaCruz, West Palm Beach, FL and Liz Schmid and husband, Chris, of Jackson, WY. She was a beloved grandmother to Megan McNees, Chicago, IL; Stephanie Husky, New York, NY; Chris Husky, Cincinnati, OH; Jeremy and Alex DaCruz, West Palm Beach, FL. She is also survived by her brothers Bill Martin and wife, Joan, of Elma, WA and John Martin of The Dalles, OR. Ruth was predeceased by her best friend Betsy McKinney. Family and friends are invited to a reception at her home from 5 to 8 pm Thursday, July 18, with a celebration of Ruth's life at 6 pm.
